Come and Play Strings
with members of the
Scottish Chamber Orchestra
We're inviting all community string players, from complete beginners to advanced level, to come along and enjoy playing alongside members of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
This one-day event is free of charge to participants. It marks the 75th anniversary of the premiere of the Concerto Grosso for Strings which was written by Vaughan Williams especially for the Rural Music Schools Association Orchestra. Originally, it was performed in the Royal Albert Hall, London, but on 7th June 2025 we're going to rehearse and then perform it to a friendly audience in Wick Assembly Rooms!
We invite all string players from across the North Highlands to come and participate. Please download an application form and return it to susie@caithnessmusic.com. If you have any trouble downloading the form, or if you have any other questions, please email susie@caithnessmusic.com.
Thanks to all of the funders who have enabled this event to be offered free of charge to participants:
Vaughan Williams Foundation @VWfndn
Stroupster Wind Farm Community Fund
RWE Camster Wind Farm Community Fund
Daniel Maclean Memorial Fund
Henry Rosie Fund (Caithness Music Festival)
*STOP PRESS*
Over the two weeks running up to this event, we're going to encourage participants to join in with our "Practice-a-thon": participating musicians will pledge to practice at home every day for two weeks and collect sponsorship to raise funds for Young Lives Vs Cancer. So if you'd like to join in with that, please make sure that you get your appliction form in by 23rd May and we'll send you all the details!
(If you'd like to support the Practice-a-thon fundraiser but you don't know any of our musicians personally, you can go to our Just Giving page to donate directly to the charity: https://www.justgiving.com/page/caithnessmusic
Thanks for your support!)
